What salt mill do you recommend for Geo Atlantic Sea Salt?
30th April 2007 08:54
I have had 2 customers recently who use this organically approved sea salt and have had difficulty finding a salt mill that will grind it.
The Geo Atlantic is unusually damp so salt mills will tend to clog repeatedly. An additional problem is that a damp sea salt is very corrosive so the material from which the mill body is made is also important. One stainless steel mill was grinding fine, but the mill body began to rust!
So I recommend either of the following mills
1. CrushGrind Good Housekeeping Capstan
This has a ceramic mechanism and a natural wood body. The ceramic mechanism is fine will a damp sea salt and the natural wood body will not be problematic.
2. PEUGEOT Vendome Wet Sea Salt grinder
This has an acrylic mechanism and acrylic body. The mechanism has been specifically designed for wet sea salt and has worked very well with the sea salt. However there is a very small possibility that the Geo sea salt may corrode even the acrylic so those who want no risk of impurites, however small, should go for the CrushGrind.
Both salt mills have a matching pepper grinder so if you want to buy a set, then this is also possble.
