I can't find a salt mill for my organic sea salt
10th April 2007 20:52
A recent query with a customer raised the question of which type of mill really will grind a wet sea salt well.
My standard reply to this question is that only the Vendome special sea salt grinder is suitable from PEUGEOT. Whereas, CrushGrind say that all their mills, being ceramic can grind wet sea salt.
I think that on the whole this is true. However, my recent customer query about the Apollo CrushGrind, will temper my reply slightly. This customer had found that their salt had started to rust the insides of their stainless steel mill, even though the ceramic mechanism was definitely still grinding perfectly well.
My advice from now will be that if you are using an unusually wet sea salt, then it is best to go for a wooden salt mill body. Not because the Crushgrind mechanism will not grind, but because salt is so corrosive a natural, benign material is best to house it!
