What kind of salt can I use in my Peugeot Salt Mill?

13th November 2006 00:00
Dear Claire
I've tried my usual Malden Salt in my Lievin salt mill and also a dry sea salt, but the mill keeps getting clogged. Do you have a brand you can recommend?
Tony

Dear Tony
Most of the Malden salts are "wet" salts that require either a specialist grinder like the Vendome grinder with a "mechanisme a sel de Guerande" (see bottom right of our home page) or you can use any of the CrushGrind ceramic mills we have on the site.

For the standard PEUGEOT salt mills, a dry sea salt is recommended. One quality brand that is widely available is Malden's Tidmans Rock Salt and it is sold in Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose. Please look for the label with says that it is particularly suited to salt mills.
Best wishes Claire

Dear Claire
Thanks for finding this out for us. I've tried the Tidmans and it works fine - I will keep you posted about any other brands we try that work as well
Regards Tony
