How to unclog a Peugeot Salt Mill

5th November 2015 09:39

Q Hi there, I recently bought a set of Peugeot Salt and Pepper Mills . The salt mill has already clogged up and I cannot get salt out of it, please can you advise what to do? - Frances

A Hi Frances. Thanks for your email. I am guessing that you may be using the wrong salt? Here are the instructions on our website:

Product Care

Peugeot Paris Natural Salt and Pepper Mills

In summary, you need to make sure that you are using a dry salt, in crystal form, not flakes. The crystals should be difficult to break if you hold them between them and forefinger. Brands like Maldon are too wet for the Peugeot mills.

Now that you are clogged, I would empty out the salt out of the mill completely and use a dry small brush or wooden kebab skewer to dislodge the clogged salt. Don't use water! Then fill with dry salt crystals and grind through a lot of the salt to try to dislodge bits and attract the moisture that is caught in the mill. This should work as you have only had the mill a short time. The mill mechanism can be taken apart, but I would not advise doing this as it can be very tricky to get back in. Once cleared, continue to use the correct salt and avoid moisture where you can - for example grinding over a steaming pan.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes - Claire
